Resorters second at Horicon Duals Invite

HORICON – Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah/Howards Grove crowned four champions en route to earning runner-up honors in Saturday’s Horicon Duals Wrestling Invitational.

Winning titles for the Resorters, all with 5-0 records, were freshman Max Ward at 120 pounds; junior Trent Rebedew, 132; senior Brock Bonebrake, 145; and senior Nick Miller, 195. Rebedew didn’t surrender any points in the tournament.

Resorter freshman Troy Rebedew (Trent’s brother) wrestled up a weight class to 170 and posted a 4-1 mark.

EL-G/HG finished 4-1 in the tourney – defeating Waterloo (48- 24), Horicon (53-17), Manawa (60-9) and Menominee Indian (54-27). The Resorters’ only loss was to champion Markesan (38- 24). Markesan chalked up a 5-0 record on the day.

“The guys wrestled great as a team. All of them [champions] wrestled very well,” said Resorter head coach Larry Ward.

“Troy wrestled exceptionally well. To be able to wrestle him up a weight class and pick up four wins was huge for our team.

“In our other duals [Elkhart’s four wins] we got some huge wins from Brennen Cain, Troy Rebedew,

Jared Shaw, and Alex Navis among others,” said coach Ward.

Coach Ward thought his team was very flat against Markesan and didn’t wrestle as hard as the tourney champion did.
