Builders honor members

The Sheboygan County Home Builders Association have presented the most prestigious awards given annually by this group to four of its members. The award ceremony took place at the recent Holiday Party held at Breaking Bread in Sheboygan. The Builder and Associate Member of the Year awards were presented along with the Rising Star and President’s award.

Dean Mullikin, Mullikin Construction, was named Builder Member of the Year, along with Jerry Baltus, Advi-Coach, who was honored as the Associate Member of the Year. The Rising Star Award was presented to Mike Werner of American Dream Builders and President’s Award to John Schafer of Schenck SC.

Candidates for these awards are nominated by their peers. Involvement & participation in the association, support of the home building industry in the community and contributions of time, and talents of the nominees are reviewed by the membership committee to determine the winners from the nominated candidates.

Mullikin, earning the Builder Member of the Year Award, currently serves as builder member on the board of directors and is also the past First Vice President of the association. In addition Dean will serve as a director on the board for the Wisconsin Builders Association in 2015. Dean and his wife, Maureen reside in Waldo.

Baltus was honored as the Associate Member of the Year. His volunteer efforts are definite contributions to the association by currently serving as President of the association, chair of the Long Range Planning Committee and recent honoree of the Rising Star Award. Jerry and his wife Betsy reside in Plymouth.

A fairly new award was presented again this year to recognize another class of members. The “Rising Star Award” is given to recognize a member with the group less than 5 years that has given of their time and talents to assist in the betterment of the association. Mike Werner, American Dream Builders, was presented with this honor for his service during the past year. Mike is currently serving as a member of the Parade of Homes Committee and was a participant in the most recent Parade of Homes entering one of his newly constructed homes for the public to tour. Mike and his wife Jane reside in Sheboygan.

The President of the group consistently receives support during his/ her term. The President’s Award is presented to recognize those services. There is no criteria for this award and is solely presented to recognize someone that is deserving. This year John Schafer, Schenck SC, was recognized for providing 18 years as the Treasure of the SCHBA. “The time and dedication John has given the association over these past 18 years has been instrumental to the financial strength of the group,” said Brad Freis, Freis Tile & Design, and Past President of the group. John and his wife Kelly reside in Howards Grove.

The Sheboygan County Home Builders Association is an active professional trade association consisting of 120 members contributing to enhance the building industry in the greater Sheboygan area.
