Sharon F. Hassinger, age 57 of Elkhart Lake, WI passed away early Friday morning (Jan. 2, 2015) at her home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Sharon was born on January 15, 1957 in Armour, South Dakota, a daughter of the late Gideon and Johanna Ledeboer Fuerst.

She attended Armour grade schools and Plymouth Middle schools graduating from Plymouth High School in 1975. Sharon continued her education by attending Lakeshore Technical College graduating with an Associate Degree in Pharmaceutical Studies, and also has a degree in Supervisory Management.

On May 22, 1981 she married David Hassinger in Madison, WI. The couple has resided in Plymouth and Crystal Lake, and has lived in Elkhart Lake for the past 28 years.

Sharon was employed at Sargento Foods in Plymouth as a Transportation Specialist for 22 years.

She enjoyed running and did many races (including many 5 k’s and beyond) and gardening. Her floral handiwork can be seen at many of the area businesses in Elkhart Lake and especially her own yard.

Sharon played the flute and hand bells, and also sang in the choir. She was a HUGE collector of “I Love Lucy” memorabilia and loved the beach and the sun, especially in Jamaica.

Survivors Include her loving husband of 33 years: David Hassinger of Elkhart Lake; one daughter: Lexie Hassinger (Dear friend: Brian) of Chicago, IL; one son: Jeremy Hassinger of Sheboygan; five sisters and brothers: Joann (Gene) Poelstra of Armour, SD, Larry (Toni) Fuerst of Plymouth, Bev Unis of Fayetteville, AK, Bonnie (Mike) Rademacher of Atlanta, GA and Sheryl (Tim) Hughes of Plymouth; one sister-in-law: Doris Fuerst of Plymouth; two brothers-in-law: Roy (Bernie) Hassinger of Kalispell, MT and Keith Hassinger of Kiel; her mother-in-law: Edna Hassinger of Plymouth and her canine children: Mindi and Preston.

She is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law: Raymond Hassinger; one brother: Dennis Fuerst; two sisters-in-law: Judy Hassinger and Renate Fuerst and one brother-in-law: Mac Warnell.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday Evening (Jan. 6, 2015) at 6:30 P.M. at Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth. Rev. Lance Lackore and Rev. James Hoppert will co-officiate. Cremation has taken place.

Friends may call at the church on Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 P.M. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial funds are being established in Sharon’s name for the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice Center, Matthews Oncology Center and the American Cancer Society.
