Tigers roll, Brinkman breaks scoring record

BOYS BASKETBALL

HOWARDS GROVE – Senior guard Ethan Brinkman hit 18 points to become Howards Grove’s all-time boys basketball leading scorer in sparking the Tigers to a 65-43 rout over visiting Chilton Tuesday night.

The nonconference win raised the Tigers’ record to 6-2. Chilton fell to 1-7.

Brinkman’s 1,088 career points surpasses Steve Bender who scored 1,073. Bender was at the game and presented the game ball to Brinkman after the record was broken.

Senior guard Zach Fritz chipped in with 10 points for HGHS. Senior forward Trent Beninghaus pulled down a teamhigh 11 rebounds and Andrew Reinemann totaled seven.

Reinemann, Beninghaus and Luke Stanczyk paced the Tigers in assists with three each.

Senior guard Lucas Forstner popped in 18 points to lead Chilton.

HGHS built a 36-23 halftime lead and outscored Chilton 18- 10 in the third quarter which blew the contest open at 54-33. The Tigers drained eight threepointers, led by Alex Strege’s three.

“Overall, we played a pretty good game. I thought we turned the ball over too many times that Chilton was able to capitalize on,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth. “The kids played real hard from start to finish and I think Reinemann and Beninghaus did a tremendous job on the glass for us.”
