Burg sparks Huskies past Tigers

HOWARDS GROVE – Junior forward Josh Burg’s 25 points powered the New Holstein Huskies past Howards Grove, 48-45, in boys basketball action here Saturday afternoon.

The nonconference win upped the Huskies’ record to 4-4. The Tigers dropped to 6-3.

“I thought our kids played them tough and it really just came down to a couple of possessions. NH has a tough team and they got us out of rhythm early which hurt us down the stretch,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“New Holstein did a good job slowing down the game and making us work defensively.

“Burg was too much offensively.

We knew we had to stop him coming in but we weren’t able to do enough,” said Worth.

Ethan Brinkman led HGHS in scoring with 11 points and Alex Strege added 10. Trent Beninghaus had a team-high 13 rebounds. Derrick Grimm and Beninghaus led in assists with two each.

The Huskies outscored the Tigers 15-5 at the free-throw line.
