Imelda E. “Mel” Barry, age 83 of Elkhart Lake, WI passed away Tuesday Morning (January 6, 2015) at Cedar Bay Assisted Living Center in Elkhart Lake, where she had been living for over two years.

She was born on April 11, 1931 in Bear Valley, WI (Richland County), daughter of the late Henry and Regina (Schmitz) Mueller.

Imelda graduated from St. Mary Springs High School in Fond du Lac and later attended Technical School in Shorewood, WI.

On April 30, 1960, she married John T. “Jack” Barry at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Milwaukee.

The couple resided in New Berlin, WI following their marriage. Jack preceded her in death on January 6, 1996 and in 1997 Imelda moved to Elkhart Lake. She also lived in Wichita and Greendale for short periods of time.

She worked as a technical writer for Industrial Publishing Service for many years, retiring in 1991.

Mel was a member at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake, where she served for the Christian Women.

She was also a member of the Elkhart Lake Study Club, Red Hat Society, and served as President for the Friends of the Library in Elkhart Lake for several years.

Imelda also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the St. Vincent de Paul store in Plymouth.

Mel enjoyed reading mystery novels, painting, traveling, needlework, playing with many bridge groups in the area, and spending time with her loving family and friends.

She is survived by her two sons: Dr. Michael (Jessica) Barry of Sheboygan Falls and Dr. James (Mary) Barry of Hanover, NH; three grandchildren: Jason Patrick Barry of Crystal Lake, IL and Jack and Lucas Barry of Sheboygan Falls; four sisters: Marian Mauer of New Holstein, Dolores Cain of Elkhart Lake, Betty Lehmann of Plymouth and Rita Lachmund of Marco Island, FL; one brother: Raymond (Vi) Mueller of Priest River, ID and one sister-in-law: Betty Mueller of Plymouth.

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one brother: Ambrose (Marilyn) Mueller; Four brothers-in-law: Robert Mauer, John Cain, Harry Lehmann, and Carl Lachmund.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday (January 10, 2015) at 11:30 A.M. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake. Father Dan Volkert, Pastor of the Church will officiate. Burial will take place in the St. Ann Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Resurrection Chapel at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake on Saturday morning (Jan. 10) from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Imelda’s name.
