Preschoolers exhibit at JMKAC

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center Preschool open house launches the annual Preschool Perspectives exhibition from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 25.

Preschool Perspectives, which runs through Feb. 22, features artwork created by the three- to five-year-olds in the Arts Center’s Preschool. The open house offers insight into the Arts Center’s acclaimed arts-based preschool program, its curriculum and the unique learning environment it provides.

Much of the inspiration for the artwork in Preschool Perspectives derives from the students regularly visiting the art galleries and attending performances of music and dance by the artists in the Arts Center’s Footlights series.

Preschool students are immersed in a nurturing environment where the fundamental skills for reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and daily life come together under the umbrella of the arts. The children study elements of art such as shape, color, line, texture, and form through a wide variety of mediums and techniques. Art activities are integrated with developing oral language, literacy, science, and math skills. During the open house, parents and youngsters can meet the teachers and learn more about the early childhood education opportunity at the Arts Center. Preschool Registration for the 2015-2016 school year begins at 9:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 26, for children age three or age four by September 1, 2015. Limited scholarships are available.
