Tigers cruise to victory, keep CLC lead

RANDOM LAKE – A strong defense and transition game ignited the Howards Grove Tigers to a 55-35 rout over Random Lake in Central Lakeshore Conference boys basketball action here Tuesday night.

The Tigers remained atop the CLC with Ozaukee at 6-1 and improved to 9-3 overall. HGHS, a winner of three in a row, will host Ozaukee in a showdown for the sole lead Friday night.

HGHS held the Rams (4-4 in the CLC, 5-5 overall) to only 33-percent shooting from the field and dominated the boards with a 44-22 rebounding edge. The Tigers pulled down an impressive 17 offensive rebounds.

The Tigers trailed 11-8 after one quarter before kicking it into gear – outscoring the Rams 47-24 the rest of the way.

“I thought our guys did a great job of competing from start to finish. We played very good team defense and we did a nice job finishing plays,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“The third quarter we were able to get out and run on the them in transition and this created some easy buckets for our guys. I liked our aggressiveness in transition and we made a number of plays for our teammates.”

HGHS had a 20-9 scoring advantage in the third period which gave it a 42-30 lead.

Senior guard Ethan Brinkman led a balanced HGHS attack with 14 points. Five Tigers tallied at least seven points.

Trent Beninghaus and Jordan Miller led HGHS in rebounds with seven each. Andrew Reinemann had a team-high four assists.

Senior Aaron Rathke popped in 20 points to lead the Rams.
