Key free throws lift Lady Dutch over Elkhart

ELKHART LAKE – The Oostburg Lady Dutch sank 11 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters, 63-58, in girls basketball play here Thursday night.

Oostburg outscored Elkhart 18- 14 in the final period. The Lady Dutch raised their Central Lakeshore Conference record to 6-3 (6-1 overall). The Resorters slipped to 3-7 in the CLC (5-10 overall).

Senior forward Mariah Ausloos hit a season-high 22 points to spark the Resorters’ offense. Ausloos was 10-for-12 at the foul line. Emily Holzmann and Rachael Flora added 10 each.

Senior guard Kimberly VanStelle led Oostburg in scoring with 18 on six three-point goals. VanStelle missed only three shots from threepoint range. The Lady Dutch canned eight three-pointers.

Talia Hranicka and Karri Jo Fischer contributed 17 and 14 points, respectively, for the Lady Dutch. Fischer was 8-for-9 and Hranicka, 6-for-7, at the charity stripe.

“It was a great high school atmosphere and a very exciting game played by both teams. The game was close throughout,” said Resorter head coach Donny Kulow.

“Mariah was a beast inside and her teammates did a nice job of getting her the ball, and she went to the basket with authority. She played very well for us and was a tough matchup for them.

“It was Rachael’s best performance of the season to this point. She really crashed the offensive glass and had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds,” said Kulow.

Flora was Elkhart’s top rebounder. Ausloos and Emma Feldmann had five boards each. Sonia Schubert had a team-high four steals and four assists.

“I am proud with the [team’s] effort. We just came up a little short,” said Kulow.

VanStelle led Oostburg in rebounding with eight. Fischer had a team-high four assists.

Hranicka led the Lady Dutch in blocked shots with an impressive five. Fischer, VanStelle and Ashlea Haag had a team-best two steals apiece.
