The Panthers, who improved to 8-2 in the Eastern Wisconsin Con- ference (11-5 overall), stayed two games behind Waupun in the EWC race. Waupun routed Sheboygan Falls, 64-38, Friday night to go to 10-0 in the EWC.

New Holstein dropped to 6-4 in the league (9-6 overall).

PHS, which trailed 27-22 at halftime, outscored the Huskies 27-15 in the third period to snatch a 49-42 lead. The Panthers held a 22-20 scoring edge in the final quarter.

“Our third-quarter run was initiated by a concerted commitment on the defensive end to take away what NH feels comfortable with,” said Panther head coach Butch Cain.

“Our offensive production improved [in the second half] with better spacing, and crisp and timely passing which allowed us some nice bounce post entries, open attack lanes and open looks from the perimeter.

“We utilized our size and quickness to our advantage in the second half and were able to get to the line effectively which is always key for us,” said Cain.

“New Holstein fed off their crowd’s energy early but we were able to keep our composure and work through the first-half deficit. Our sustained energy and intensity carried us late.”

Senior post player Matt Olig scored a career-high 22 points to ignite the PHS offense. Nick Casper and Zac Cain chipped in with 18 and 17, respectively. Cain paced the team in rebounds with seven and Dominic Bocchini grabbed six.

Bocchini paced PHS in assists with five. Casper and Cain led in steals with three each.

“Dominic gave us good leadership at the point. Drew [Schweiger] gave us a lift in our efforts to defend the lane,” said coach Cain.

“Nick took the ball to the rim with authority and Matt was active in carving out some room for himself and his teammates under the hoop.”

Sophomore guard Devin Strupp led the Huskies’ attack with 16 points. Josh Burg and Devon Johnson added 15 each.

The Panthers outscored the Huskies 19-8 at the foul line.
