VERNER J. VAN DE HEY

Verner J. Van De Hey, age 77 of New Holstein (formerly of Elkhart Lake), passed away Tuesday morning (February 10th) at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan where he had been a patient.

He was born on April 6, 1937 in Antigo, WI, a son of the late Robert and Marjorie (Wenzel) Van De Hey.

He attended several schools growing up, graduating from Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah High School in 1955.

He joined the Army Reserves, 32nd Red Arrow Division of Wisconsin.

He married Kay Diane Kunz on October 28, 1961.

Verner was first employed as a window salesman at Plyco of Elkhart Lake early in the marriage, and later went to Cornell Motors as a new and used car salesman. Verner and his wife then opened a gas and service station in Elkhart Lake which they ran for many years. He was also employed by the Kettle Moraine Correctional Facility as a guard until his retirement.

On April 6, 1986 he married Verna Adermann in Las Vegas, Nevada. They resided in Elkhart Lake until moving to Texas in 2004. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2005. For the last ten years he resided in New Holstein.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kiel. He was also an active member of the Elkhart Lake Fire Dept. for many years and a lifetime member of the Lions Club.

Verner enjoyed bingo, card playing and garage sale with Verna until her passing. Most recently he enjoyed playing solitaire, watching the weather channel and visiting with his family. He will be missed!

Survivors include his four children: Sara (Leo) Fechter of Fredonia, John Van De Hey (Kim) of New Holstein, Mark Van De Hey (fiance: Aracelis) of Fuquay Varina, NC and Mary (John Kevin) O’Connell of Wilmington, DE; three step children: Deborah Adermann of Texas, Dale (Vicki) Adermann of Texas and Dean (Carin) Adermann of Texas; three grandchildren: Kate, Lea and Leo Fechter III; four step grandchildren: Zane and Alix Adermann and Rebecca and Jacob Miller; two sisters: Val (Jerry) Norville of Ruther Glen, VA and Lori (Richard) Morrow of Coronado, CA and his former wife: Kay Ellis of Wilmington, DE.

He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Verna and other family members.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday (Feb. 18th) at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Rev. Steve Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenbush Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth on Wednesday (Feb. 18th) from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services. The Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post #5612 will conduct military rites following the services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Verner’s name.
