Yancy sparks Tigers to CLC victory

GIRLS BASKETBALL

RANDOM LAKE – Sophomore center Sam Yancy scored 20 points to propel the Howards Grove Tigers past Random Lake, 42-26, here Thursday night.

The Tigers improved to 11-2 in the Central Lakeshore Conference (14-7 overall) and stayed one game behind front-running Sheboygan Christian. The Eagles defeated Oostburg, 46-37, Thursday night to clinch at least a share of the CLC title as they upped their league record to 12-1.

HGHS and Christian have one CLC game remaining. They split their two meetings this season.

The Tigers broke the game open by outscoring the Rams 22-7 in the first half. Random Lake fell to 3-9 in the CLC (7- 13 overall).

Sophomore guard Brittany Schaller chipped in with 15 points for the Tigers. Morgan Edge dished out a team-high five assists and Schaller contributed three.

Yancy also had a team-high eight rebounds. Olivia Stauss paced the Tigers in steals with four and Schaller had three. HGHS had an impressive 15 steals.
