HOWARDS GROVE—Howards Grove School Superintendent Chris Peterson discussed the 2015- 2016 projected school budget with the School Board at their monthly meeting Feb. 16.

Peterson reviewed initial budget projections that the school could lose up to $150 per student if the new state budget were to pass without any changes to the current proposals.

Peterson gave three different budget scenarios in a power point and showed how the projected cuts could affect the Howards Grove School District revenues.

The proposed reductions in pupil categorical aid, reduction in revenue limits and total reduction in revenue with the possible increase in teacher’s salaries will affect future budgets for the school.

The three different scenarios showed revenue losses between $250K -$270K. “We will look at future conditions for next year,” said Peterson.

Peterson suggested there may be some savings from this year, however he would like to look at possible reductions in the budget in the next couple months.

The three school principals gave preliminary enrollment figures.

Northview Principal Teresa Keehn expects that junior kindergarten may have a slight increase with grades 1-4 remaining flat.

Middle School Principal Andy Hansen stated that the middle school would stay relatively the same. Some sections could change, resulting in possible staffing changes.

High School Principal Scott Fritz noted that an adjustment to the Agriculture class shows a slight increase for next year.

Peterson cautioned that if the three-year average went up the school would lose its declining enrollment aid.

The 2013 Environmental Science book edition was approved.

A letter of retirement for Chris Lemanczyk effective the end of the school year was accepted with regrets.

An amendment to the 2014-2015 school budget was approved to distribute $63,781.00 from revenues to school expenditures.
