Dakin Straub of the PHS Class of 2008 spent the 2008-09 school year in France. Rodrigo Ignacio Agüero of Chile attended PHS during 2011-12.

PHS is hosting nine AFS students this year, from Chile, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain and Turkey. A 10th student will be arriving soon from Lebanon.

PHS has representatives from all three sponsored AFS programs: Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Program for students from countries with significant Muslim populations; Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Program for students from the countries of the former Soviet Union; and Congress-Bundestag for students from Germany.

AFS is concerned about a proposal from the U.S. State Department to cut $4 million for the CBYX program. “We have had some amazing CBYX students, including Leon this year,” said Clare Sedlacek, Plymouth AFS co-coordinator. “I would like to encourage people to not only go to the website, but to contact our U.S. senators and representatives.”

In addition, Plymouth AFS is looking for families interested in hosting a student during the 2015-16 school year. AFS host families provide room and board and welcome a new member into their home, share their everyday lives, and grow as they get to know one another.
