Veteran aid

To the Editor,

On behalf of the American Legion Auxiliary and Post #387 Franklin, I would like to take this opportunity to thank so many of you that supported our “Fat Tuesday Dinner” to raise funds to aid veterans’ and their families.

Funds raised aid Veterans’ in the VA hospitals, centers and veterans homes. Some is direct aid, such as clothing, personal items, etc.

Some is sent to veterans homeless shelters where rehabilitation is given to get the veteran back into the work force and normal social life.

Scholarships are offered for veteran’s children as well as veterans’ themselves to complete their education.

There are scholarships for children of veterans that made the supreme sacrifice.

Funds are also used for gifts at Christmas and other holidays as well. At times cash is passed out by Legion and Auxiliary volunteers at the VA facilities.

Thanks should also be given to the many who donated raffle baskets and items for the silent auction, including the Milwaukee Brewers.

Thanks should also go to the 23 Legion and Auxiliary members and three non-member volunteers who helped make this type of fund raiser a success.

There were about 325 in attendance, so if you got your coffee a little late, we hope you understand.

Thanks again for supporting us. This was one small way of saying “Thank You” to those who serve, and those who have proudly served.

Margaret Yonke, President
Franklin #387 American Legion Auxiliary
