Barbara Voelker, 85, of Plymouth died March 4, 2015 at Columbia-St. Mary’s Hospital-Ozaukee following heart surgery.

She was born on August 6, 1929. Her parents were Edward and Edna Giebler. She graduated from Elkhart Lake High School in 1947 as valedictorian and from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

After graduation she married Robert Mudrow in Elkhart Lake. He preceded her in death in 1983. She later married Earl Voelker in St. Thomas, USVI in 1993 who later died in 1997.

Barb began her 47 year career as a high school English teacher in Valders, New Holstein and Howards Grove. She then taught for 26 years in Elkhart Lake. After retiring from the public school system, she was an English instructor at Marion College in Fond du Lac. She volunteered at St. John’s Lutheran and St. John the Baptist Catholic schools in Plymouth and was a counselor at Badger Girls State. She found teaching very rewarding; in later years no matter where she went‚ whether to the grocery store or even the Rose Bowl game, she would meet a former student and a lively conversation would ensue.

During retirement, Barb loved to travel the world, particularly by cruise ship. Her favorite city was Venice and she returned there many times. Her favorite sight was seeing the Statue of Liberty while sailing into the New York Harbor after being away in a foreign country. She also spent her time golfing; even getting a hole in one! She also enjoyed singing. She has sung with the Sheboygan Symphony Singers and the Golden Cordeliers.

Barb was a member of service clubs including the Plymouth Women’s Club, serving as secretary and president; the Plymouth Civic Society, being president for five years; member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 243, being State Parliamentarian for one year; member of the Sheboygan County Retired Teachers Association and the Sheboygan County Christian Women’s Club. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and volunteered there.

She is survived by her children John Mudrow, Elkhart Lake and Deborah (Jay) Nolte, Elkhart Lake; two sisters Judy Hines, Ventura, California and Maggie Odekirk, Anacortes Washington; two stepsons Robert and Val Voelker of Ohio.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Grace Mudrow and one stepdaughter Judy Voelker, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Hilmer and Iola Voelker.
