And the band played on at anniversary of big fire

March 8, 2015 will mark the one-year anniversary of the fire that broke out in St. Joseph’s Hall, the oldest and one of the most beloved buildings on St. Lawrence Seminary’s Mt. Calvary campus.

The morning of the fire, students were suppose to perform for Solo-Ensemble, but because St. Joseph’s Hall housed the music department, countless pieces of music and instruments were lost that morning. That included the music and instruments that were supposed to be used at the Festival the morning of March 8, 2014.

Approximately one year later, through the hard work of faculty, staff and students, the music department has not missed a beat.

Saturday, February 28, 2015, St. Lawrence had 28 students participate in 35 events at the District Solo-Ensemble Festival at Hilbert High School.

This was all made possible through the generosity of all those who donated instruments, monetary means, and their time throughout the course of the year.

Nineteen students in 21 events qualified for the State Solo-Ensemble Festival, Saturday, April 25, 2015, at UW-Oshkosh.

John Ahlstrom the Seminary’s Music Director commented “I could not be more pleased with the results or more proud of my guys. The music continues to play here at St. Lawrence at the anniversary of the fire, and we could not be more proud of our students for all they have been able to accomplish.”
