Lutheran comes up short in sectional semis

WAUKESHA – The Sheboygan Lutheran Crusaders’ second-half rally fell shy as they lost to Young Coggs Prep (Milwaukee), 61-57, in a Division 5 boys sectional basketball semifinal game Thursday night at Waukesha North.

The Crusaders ended their season 18-8. Lutheran, which ap- peared in the state tournament last season, played in their fifth straight sectional.

The Eagles advanced to the state tournament with a 57-36 rout over Hustisford in the finals Saturday night which improved their record to 21-5.

Senior guard Jacob Jurss closed out an outstanding career at Lutheran with a game-high 32 points, including a 19-point explosion in the fourth quarter. Vinny Montazella III chipped in with eight points.

Tiwon Jones led the Eagles’ attack with 21 points, followed by Yoshari Brown with 15.

Lutheran, which trailed 26- 16 at halftime, cut the deficit to two several times in the final period but Young Coggs was able to held off the Crusaders with clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch. The Crusaders outscored Young Coggs 41-35 in the second half.
