Eckersley Cottage

This house was built by James Eckersley in 1874. It is a modest frame house built into the Mullet River ridge. The residence is a Carpenter Gothic Cottage style with the characteristic steep roof and quaintly-cut barge-board trim.

James Eckersley came to Plymouth from Lancashire, England, in 1850. He and his sons were engaged in the housemoving business, better defined as “horse-power business” because they furnished horses for heavy work, including power to run a saw mill.
