Fitness classes begin in May

Plymouth School District Community Education and Recreation is offering a variety of fitness classes beginning in May.

Register by April 24 and save $10 on the following classes, which will meet at Riverview Middle School, 300 Riverside Circle, unless otherwise noted:

Core Training: This new Fitness Level 1 class is great for beginners but also can benefit the most experienced participants. Good for those looking specifically at core strength or a low-impact course to get started, it will use stability, Bosu, and medicine balls plus exercise bands, mats and weights. Class will meet with instructor Josette Svitter from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays from May 7 to Aug. 20 (except May 25). Fee is $84 ($67 for Generations members and district residents ages 62 and up) until April 24, then $94; or a new option this summer lets people attend any 15 classes for $48.

Interval Training: This new Fitness Level 2 class will utilize different intervals to achieve cardiovascular, strength and flexibility improvements. Participants will be guided through different exercises each class to find and achieve fitness goals. Class will be outside when weather permits. Class will meet with i nstructor Josette Svitter from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays from May 7 to Aug. 20 (except May 25); fee is $84 (seniors $67) until April 24, then $94; or attend any 15 classes for $48.

Couch to Cheesehead: This class is designed for the person who has always wanted to try a 2-mile run but has never prepared for one before. Get training, tips and support, including an inspirational change of scenery July 6 on the Road America race track. Class will meet with instructor Katie Schuenemann from 7:15 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from May 6 to July 8 (except May 25) at Plymouth High School, 125 Highland Ave. Fee is $50 (seniors $40) until April 24, then $60.

Top Flight: This complete figure-shaping fitness program begins with a warm-up and continues into aerobics, designed to strengthen the cardiovascular system. The mat work section will shape and define arm, abdominal, thigh and hip muscles. Class will meet with instructor Pat Moriarty from 8 to 9 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from May 6 to Aug. 19 (except May 25) at the Plymouth Youth Center. Fee is $112 (seniors $90) until April 24, then $122; or attend any 15 classes for $64.

Yoga: This beginner class covers basic poses and offers a great opportunity to give this healthful activity a try. Class will meet with instructor Stuart Gavin from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays from May 5 to Aug. 18 (except Aug. 4) at the Plymouth Youth Center, next to Riverview Middle School. Fee is $42 (seniors $33) until April 24, then $52; or attend any eight classes for $26.
