Resorters sweep twinbill, go to 4-0

OOSTBURG – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters outslugged Oostburg, 12-11, in the nightcap to earn a sweep of a softball doubleheader here Friday.

The game was called after five innings due to darkness. Elkhart won the opener, 8-4.

The twinbill was a matchup of last year’s Central Lakeshore Conference co-champions. Elkhart upped its CLC record to 4-0 (same overall).

“It’s big sweeping a doubleheader on the road. We’re so young. The girls pulled through. I’m very proud of them,” said Resorter head coach Brian Feldmann.

“We’re swinging the bats real well. Lauren Schmitt [freshman] played real well in right field. Megan Waage did well [a freshman, pitching in game two] in her first varsity game.”

Elkhart banged out 14 hits in game two, led by Sonia Schbubert and Rachael Flora and Sonia Schubert with three each. Flora and Schubert each drilled a double and triple. Raechel Grunewald had a team-high four RBIs.

Schubert led EL-G in steals with three and runs, four. Claire Feldmann scored three times.

Kim VanStelle paced the Lady Dutch in hits with three. Jess Mullikin and Abbie Huibregtse led in RBIs with two apiece.

A five-run fourth inning, highlighted by Schubert’s grand slam, sparked the Resorters to victory in the opener. The outburst gave Elkhart a 7-3 lead.

Aryka Klemme hit a solo homer for EL-G in the second. Flora and Klemme had a teambest two hits each.

Schubert led the Resorters in RBIs with four. Klemme paced her team in runs with three.

Paige Gabrielse keyed the Oostburg attack with two hits.

Holly Zorn went the distance to earn the win. Zorn allowed two earned runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
