Young Resorter team looking to progress

ELKHART LAKE – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah boys golf team is very young and will be striving to learn and improve as the season goes on.

Head coach Bart Larson’s squad has three freshmen in the varsity lineup – Max Ward, Dante Miller and Sam Lutzke – and only two players back from last year’s golf program in senior Elliot Van Oss and sophomore Brennan Cain.

“This will be the youngest, most inexperienced team we have had in a long time. Three frosh will be on varsity and they will gain a lot of valu- able experience.” said Larson.

“The weakness is inexperience and lack of depth, and competition from within our team.”

Van Oss and Cain were members of the 2014 EL-G team which qualified for Division 3 sectional play. The Resorters finished fifth in the Central Lakeshore Conference overall race.

“Elliot will do a great job being the leader for these guys on and off the course. He does things the right way and has been mentoring the young guys in a positive way,” Lar son observed.

The coach has been impressed with the freshmen.

“All 3 frosh love golf and I am confident they will all play in the summer, so I look forward to watching them improve all year and then from one year to the next. They just need to get some course and meet experience,” Larson said.

Larson said the top goal this season is to constantly improve.

“Keep working and learning from their mistakes, and not becoming complacent because of our lack of depth and team competition,” said the coach, referring to the keys for the team to have success.
