Cougars’ Albert no-hits Panthers

CAMPBELLSPORT – Sophomore Zoe Albert fired a no-hitter as the Campbellsport Cougars defeated Plymouth, 6-0, in Eastern Wisconsin Conference softball play here Tuesday evening.

Albert fanned 10 Panthers and walked four. The loss dropped Plymouth’s EWC record to 1-4 (3-6 overall).

The Cougars broke the game open with four runs, including thee unearned, in the bottom of the sixth inning which upped their lead to 6-0.

PHS trailed 2-0 when it threatened to score in the fifth. Vanessa Arbuckle and Michaela Kelly drew back-to-back walks to open the frame and Hannah Bucko reached base on an error after she bunted. The Panthers had the bases loaded with no outs but were unable to capitalize.

“Campbellsport made key plays when it counted and we didn’t. Give Albert credit, she pitched a very good game,” said PHS head coach Dawn Krebsbach.

Erica Helmer pitched well but took the loss. Helmer allowed three earned runs on seven hits with six walks and five strikeouts in going the route.

Ashley Emmer led the Cougars in hits with two (both singles).

JUNIOR VARSITY GAME

The Cougars won the JV game, 6-1. Mady Straub and Sommer Stoney paced PHS in hits with two each.

Sylvia Peters was the losing hurler. She allowed six earned runs on nine hits with one walk, a hit batter and four strikeouts in six frames. PHS is 0-3 in the EWC (4-7 overall).
