Elkhart’s Knepfel, Schubert shine at Funk Invitational

The relay finished fourth. – Review photo by Greg Ceilley KOHLER – Senior Logan Knepfel and sophomore Sonia Schubert won two events each to lead the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah boys and girls teams, respectively, in Friday’s Glenn Funk Track Invitational.

Knepfel won the 200-meter dash in a meet-record 22.66 seconds. He also took first in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.25 which was only 0.05 seconds off the meet record.

Schubert captured first in the long jump with a 16-1¼ performance and the triple jump at 33-4.

“I was really impressed with the jumpers in general. Most of them accomplished personal records,” said EL-G Resorter head coach Chris Petrie.

“Knepfel ran with a purpose and his hard work is starting to payoff. Hunter Radloff ran his fastest time in the 1,600. It was a fun meet to watch our athletes compete in.”

Elkhart finished sixth in the boys meet with 45.33 points. Ozaukee won the championship with 122 points in the six-team field.

The Resorters placed fifth in the six-team girls meet with 49 points. Manitowoc Lutheran was first with 158.

The Elkhart boys’ other topthree finisher was Dyllan Konen who took third in the 300 intermediate hurdles.

Also placing in the top three for the EL-G girls squad was Eliza Meyers who was third in the triple jump; and the 400 relay team of Brittany Schmidt, Summer Henschel, Meyers and Schubert which finished third.
