Plan Commission endorses Pine Haven remodeling

The Sheboygan Falls Plan Commission backed a proposal from Pine Haven Christian Communities to remodel a portion of its existing nursing care facility on Giddings Avenue, during a monthly meeting Tuesday, April 28, at the Municipal Building.

Pine Haven Christian Communities CEO Ron Walvoort said the plan includes remodeling the front portion of the existing Pine Haven Christian Home facility at 531 Giddings Ave. in Sheboygan Falls to add a driveway under a canopy adjacent to the new front entry.

“We are currently in the process of a building a brand new facility adjacent to our Prairie Crossing location off of Bluebird Lane on Pine Haven Drive,” Walvoort said. “As a result, we plan to transfer 50 skilled nursing and rehabilitation beds from our Giddings location to the new facility.

“A portion of that area will be turned into office space and a receiving dock,” he said. “We will also be tearing down the south wing and providing a new entry way to the assisting living part of the Giddings facility, which is part of this plan,” he said. “Right now there are steps in that part of the building that aren’t very good for seniors. Our goal with this plan is to create a new entry and lobby area on that side of the building.”

Walvoort said the Giddings location will retain 137 assisted living and memory care rooms.

Mayor Randy Meyer praised the project before asking Walvoort to contact the neighbors in the area about the planned changes.

“I think this is going to look very nice,” Meyer said. “I believe it will be an improvement to the neighborhood and I commend Pine Haven for doing it.

“The only thing I would suggest is contacting the neighbors to keep them in the loop about what will be happening,” he said. “No matter what you do, neighbors generally have questions when there is a change like this. The best thing to do is to keep them informed.”

Walvoort said Pine Haven has planned a meeting with the neighbors in the vicinity of the Giddings facility on Thursday, May 21, in an effort to keep them updated about the project.

Walvoort also noted that the target date to move the skilled nursing beds to the new facility is June 15.

After a short discussion, the Plan Commission approved the partial site plan, partial site grading and erosion control plan for the proposed remodeling project.

The next Sheboygan Falls Plan Commission meeting is scheduled to take place Tuesday, May 26, at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the Sheboygan Falls Municipal Building.
