Tigers lose CLC twinbill

RANDOM LAKE – The Howards Grove Tigers were held to only six hits total in Tuesday’s softball doubleheader against host Random Lake as they were swept, 6-2 and 14-2.

The Tigers fell to 1-8 in the Central Lakeshore Conference (3-10 overall) and have lost six straight CLC games.

In the opener, the Rams’ Hannah Huiras twirled a four-hitter to earn the win. She walked only one, had one strikeout and hit a batter.

Lyndsay Peterson took the loss – allowing two earned runs on seven hits with four walks and strikeouts each in going the route.

Peterson led the Tigers’ offense with two hits and two RBIs. Huiras, Emma Schimberg and Hannah Borchardt paced the Rams in hits with two each.


Cathryn Hiller spun a two-hitter en route to the victory in the nightcap. The Rams’ ace walked just one and fanned eight.

Paige Splittgerber was the losing hurler as she gave up nine earned runs on 12 hits with five walks and one strikeout in four innings. The game was called after 4½ innings due to the 10-run rule.

Taylor Bubolz and Sarah Gardner collected one hit each for HGHS. Borchardt led Random Lake in hits with three and Jenna Bares had a team-high four RBIs.
