Panthers stumble in EWC play

PLYMOUTH – Poor fielding and a lack of timely hitting hurt the Plymouth Panthers as they lost, 7-4, to New Holstein in Thursday evening’s softball game at Gale Grahn Field.

The Panthers committed seven errors and stranded runners in four of the seven innings. PHS, which has lost seven straight, fell to 1-9 in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference (3-12 overall).

“We are struggling getting runners who are in scoring position across the plate. Between that and sloppy defense, those are the big reasons we aren’t winning,” said Panther head coach Dawn Krebsbach.

Kelsey Kaiser earned a complete game win. Kaiser allowed three earned runs on six hits with two walks and a pair of strikeouts.

Erica Helmer was the losing hurler – allowing five earned runs on 11 hits with three walks and strikeouts each.

Helmer and Caitlyn Klemme led PHS in hits with two each.

JUNIOR VARSITY GAME

PHS banged out a season-high 10 hits to key a 16-12 JV win. Plymouth’s offense was led by Sylvia Peters, Kendra Stauss, Kayla Prahl and Logan Schreiber with two hits apiece.

Peters was the winning pitcher. She walked six and fanned four in seven frames.

“It was a great team effort,” said PHS coach Paul Krzyzaniak.
