PHS girls win EWC Relays title

KEWASKUM – The Plymouth Panthers won the girls championship in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference Relays here Tuesday.

PHS scored 99 points and Sheboygan Falls was the runner-up with 88.

Kiel dethroned two-time defending champion PHS in the boys meet as it tallied 101 points. The Panthers placed fourth with 82.

The Panthers won four events in the girls competition. The trio of Mary Albert, Jonell Klopf and Katie Grimm won the 300-meter hurdles, led by Albert’s 50.26-second split.

Klopf and Grimm were also on the winning 300 shuttle hurdle relay which was clocked in 57.41.

The PHS girls’ other winners included the 800 sprint medley in 1 minute, 57.45 seconds and the distance medley in 4:37.83. The sprint medley included Elizabeth Baus, Morgan Lisowe, Emma Grapentine and Gwen Nytes. The distance medley consisted of Hanna Eigenberger, Brooke Koehn, Maddie Strutz and Claire Wichert.

The Panthers won three events in the boys meet – 800 relay in 1:31.30; 800 sprint medley, 1:37.81; and the long jump with 57-10. The 800 relay and the sprint medley included Dominic Bocchini, Jake Schneider, Samuel Staehling and Evan Sebranek.

The long jump trio included Derek Novotny, Cody Kuhn and Gavin Falk. Novotny’s 20-7¾ performance led the field.

“Both teams did well in this meet where we try to concentrate on the team aspect of the sport.,” said PHS head coach Jay Grosshuesch.

“Our girl hurdlers had a great night winning both of their events. Also our two medley relays had great splits and won their races quite easily.

“For the boys, the hurdlers looked good in winning the 300 shuttle. Our sprinters were real strong in their wins in the 800 and sprint medley relays.

“In the field events, the three long-jumpers put together some nice jumps to secure our team win in that event,” said Grosshuesch.
