UW-S hosts “Behind the Furnace”
Area residents are invited to visit the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan Fine Arts Gallery for its latest art exhibit, “Behind the Furnace” by John M. Posewitz, throughout the month of June. An Opening Reception will be held Thursday, June 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery.
“It all started as a little boy in love with the ‘Funnies.’ They fascinated me, a few simple lines created these whole personalities,” Posewitz said. “The little room behind that monster coal furnace became my studio. My tools, a pencil and the cardboard backing from school tablets."
During WWII the world stopped making toys, but Posewitz took his ingenuity and starting making his own toys, including swords, guns and roller skate scooters.
The Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Most of the paintings will be available for purchase. For more information about the show or UWSheboygan's Fine Arts Gallery, contact Gallery Director Dan Smith at dan. smith@uwc.edu.
