PHS, HG/EL-G advance four flights

PHS competed in the subsectional at the Sports Core in Kohler and placed fourth with 12 points. Grafton took first with 24.

Advancing for Plymouth in singles were Matt Primozic at the No. 1 position and Ryan Gallagher at No. 3. The Panthers qualified two doubles teams – Gabe and Gavin Binversie at No. 1, and Ben Pierce and Connor McManus, No. 3.

HG/EL-G played in the seven-team subsectional at the Western Racquet Club in Green Bay. The Tigers earned second with 16 points. Green Bay Notre Dame was the champion with 24. Kohler (14 points) and Sheboygan Falls (10) finished third and fourth, respectively.

The sectional qualifiers for HG/EL-G include: singles – Travis Stanczyk at No. 3, and Eric Reinemann, No. 4; and doubles – Andrew Reinemann and Zach Fritz, No. 1, and Trent Beninghaus and Brad Olson at No. 2.

“I am very happy with the team. This is the first year in my coaching that we have four individuals/ teams moving forward to sectionals,” said HG/EL-G head coach Elizabeth Hill.

“Their hard work all season has paid off.”

Falls advanced its No. 3 doubles team of Ben Krueger and Ben LeBlanc.

The No. 1 singles and doubles flights who reach the semifinals, and the finalists in the 2-4 singles and doubles flights qualify for sectional play. PHS was scheduled to compete in the sectional at East Troy Wednesday, May 27. HG/EL will compete in the sectional at the Sports Core Thursday, May 28, starting at 9 a.m.

Primozic and the Binversie duo advanced to the semifinals with first-round byes. Gallagher earned a spot in the finals with wins over Jerome Schreiner of St, Mary’s Springs (Fond du Lac) in the first round (6-0, 6-1) and Lucas Pepper of Ripon in the semifinals (6-3, 6-4).

Pierce and McManus received a first-round bye and then had a dominant 6-1, 6-0 semifinal win over a Ripon team.
