Resorters advance 10 events to sectional

HILBERT – The Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah boys and girls track teams combined to qualify 10 events for the sectional meet at the Division 3 regional here Tuesday.

The Resorter girls advanced seven events, led by sophomore Sonia Schubert who qualified in four events. Schubert won the long jump at 17-3, took second in the 100-meter high hurdles and ran on the second-place 400 and 800 relays.

The top-four finishers in each regional event move on to the sectional level. The sectional will be held Friday at Princeton, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Elkhart’s boys squad was paced by senior Logan Knepfel who won the 200 dash in 23.99 seconds and earned third in the 110 highs.

“Our kids preformed well at regionals. We qualified 11 athletes, many in multiple events, for the sectional meet and many that did not qualify had their best performances all year,” said Resorter hesd coach Chris Petrie.

“We have a few things to fix this week before Friday. I look forward to watching what our athletes can do in pursuit of the state meet.”

Algoma won the girls meet with 159 points and EL-G was fifth at 74. Hilbert-Stockbridge was the boys champion with 124.5 points and EL-G was ninth at 30.5.
