The Sheboygan Falls High School boys tennis team concluded their dual meet season with a 7-0 victory over Two Rivers Thursday, May 21.

Falls finished the dual meet season in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference in fifth place with a 5-4 record (8-5 overall).

Falls singles players Jake Zehr, Zack Hand and Peyton Luecke won in two sets, while Aaron Mullikin received a forfeit.

In the match of the night, the No. 1 doubles team of Louis Moreau and Brayden Much won a thrilling three-set match in an 8-6 tie breaker.

After losing the first set 6-2, Moreau and Much won the second set 6-4. The third set went back and forth until Two Rivers took a 6-5, 40-love lead.

Moreau and Much then rallied to play their best tennis of the year. They broke Two Rivers to force a tie break and went down 6-4 in the tie break. They then won the next four points to win the match.

“They had great hustle, getting the ball in and back, forcing their opponents to make some errors, which provided an opportunity to put some balls away,” said Falcons’ head coach Leigh Cherveny.

Xavier shutout Falls 7-0 Tuesday, May 19 in a nonconference matchup.

“The match allowed us to look at 2016 by moving several players out of their comfort zone by playing up a flight or singles versus doubles,” commented Cherveny. “It really helps our players see where their talent level is at the next flight and what they may need to do in the off-season. Zehr, Hand and Jordan Mielke all played well.”

Howards Grove defeated the Falcons 5-2 Monday, May 18.

Hand and the No. 3 doubles team of Ben LeBlanc and Ben Krueger picked up wins.

“As coach, it is my job to get the players ready to play and I failed to do so,” stated Cherveny. “ I thought it would be a 4-3 win for one of the teams. No one played well. Even our 2 wins weren’t good.”
