HELEN J. SCHULTZ

Helen J. Schultz (nee Joslin), 83, of Plymouth passed away peacefully Thursday, June 4, 2015 in Mequon, WI.

She was born on December 6, 1931, in Independence, IA, a daughter of the late Francis and Margaret (Toomey) Joslin.

Helen graduated from St. John’s High School in Independence, IA, in 1948, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree at Clarke University in Dubuque, IA in 1952, and later a Master’s Degree at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI.

On June 10, 1954, she married Paul Schultz in Independence, IA. Following the marriage, the couple moved to Las Cruces, NM, where Paul was stationed with the U.S. Army at White Sands Proving Grounds. Helen taught first grade at the elementary school on the military base. After Paul’s discharge, they moved to Ann Arbor, MI, where he earned his fisheries degree from the University of Michigan. When Paul was hired by the Wisconsin DNR in 1957, the couple moved to Oshkosh, WI, and then to Plymouth, WI, in 1958, where they raised their family of five. Helen taught first grade for the Plymouth Public School System, retiring in 1989. Helen was an active member of the Plymouth Education Association, serving as its president for one year.

Helen was a member or volunteer with many Plymouth organizations, including the Elections Board, Plymouth Library Board, Plymouth Women’s Club, Plymouth Historical Society, the Literacy Council of Sheboygan, and AAUW of Sheboygan, and she was a Charter Member of the Plymouth Arts Foundation. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth and helped with the Christian Mothers and the Parent Teachers Organization. Helen enjoyed being a member of various card clubs in the area. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with family and friends to destinations throughout Wisconsin, the U.S., and abroad.

Survivors include: Four children: Claire (Jim) Williams of Louisville, KY, Janann (David) Miller of Cedarburg, WI, Marti (Jim) Cargile of Milwaukee, WI, and Jake Schultz of Issaquah, WA; Four grandchildren: Jacob Williams, Margo (Miller) Buettner, Craig Miller, and Kathryn Lent; One sister-in-law: Mary Frances (Richard) Johnson; and many cherished nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Paul of Plymouth; daughter Paula; parents Francis and Margaret; sister Ann; sister-in-law Elizabeth; brothers-in-law: Walter, Leo, and Richard; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Father Dan Volkert, Pastor of the Church will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Friends may call at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday (June 10) until the time of services. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall, and a private burial service will be held after the luncheon.
