Resorters hold on to notch first win

CEDAR GROVE – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters staved off a late rally by Cedar Grove- Belgium to earn a 6-5 baseball victory here Wednesday evening.

The Resorters improved to 1-3 in the Central Lakeshore Conference (1-4 overall). The Rockets dropped to 0-2 in CLC play (0-4 overall).

Cedar Grove scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to close to within 6-5 but the Resorters held on for the win.

Owen Kalbacken came through with a two-run single in the Resorters’ sixth which snapped a 3-3 tie and gave them the lead for good, 5-3.

Elliot Van Oss sparked EL-G’s bats with four hits and three RBIs. Kalbacken had two RBIs. Tyler Schultz and Stephan Clemens scored a team-high two runs each.

Gunnr Johnson was the winning pitcher in relief. Johnson allowed three runs (all unearned) on three hits with two walks and one strikeout in three innings.

“Owen Kalbacken had a huge bases-loaded single to give us the extra runs we needed to hold on. Max Kossman and Gunnr Johnson teamed up to pitch a very good game,” said Resorter head coach Davin Hill.

Kossman started on the mound and threw four frames – allowing two earned runs on four hits with three walks and three whiffs.
