Aquatic classes begin soon in Plymouth High pool

Numerous aquatics classes offered by Plymouth School District Community Education and Recreation will begin soon.

Save $10 if you register by July 3 for the following classes, which will meet with instructor Beth Kerntke on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from July 13 to Aug. 19 in the pool at Plymouth High School, 125 Highland Ave.:

• Lap Swim/Water Walking: Newly announced, these self-directed opportunities will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; fee is $10.

• Ultimate Shallow Aerobics: This new shallow-depth class gives you three nights to work out - Mondays and Wednesdays you will work with the instructor to tone, shape and strengthen your muscles. On Tuesdays, you can work on the moves you learned. Posters and some equipment will be available. Class will meet from 7:15 to 8 p.m.; until July 3 the fee is $50 ($40 for Generations members and district residents ages 62 and up) for three sessions a week, or $36 (seniors $28) for two.

• Deep Challenge: This new deepwater class gives you three nights to work out - Mondays and Wednesdays you can work on your own or with the help of posters for muscle toning and strengthening. On Tuesdays, you work with the instructor to enhance your week's workout with motivational instruction. Class will meet from 7:15-8 p.m.; until July 3 the fee is $50 (seniors $40) for three sessions a week, or $36 (seniors $28) for two.

• 20/20: This favorite offers 20 minutes of high-powered and motivational shallow aerobics followed by 20 minutes of ab work. Your feet will be off the floor for long periods of time and you'll use equipment. Class will meet from 8:15 to 9 p.m.; until July 3 the fee is $50 (seniors $40) for three sessions a week, or $36 (seniors $28) for two.

The classes below are offered from July 13 to 24 in conjunction with the Plymouth Adult Community Center and taught by Fred Brown and staff in the PHS pool. Additional sessions will be offered from July 27 to Aug. 7 and from Aug. 10 to 21.

• Adult Swim Lessons: Lessons are offered from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; fee is $24 until July 3, then $34; or sign up for two sessions for $40 or three for $48.

• Aquatic Rehab Class: The buoyancy and resistance of water challenges the body while easing strain on problematic areas. The program is designed for seniors but open to all. Exercises are in shallow water, so no swimming skills are needed. Class will meet from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; there is no fee, but pre-registration is required by July 3.

• SilverSneakers Splash: This class requires no swimming ability but offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. This class is open only to Silver Sneakers and Generations members. Classes will meet from 9 to 9:45 a.m. and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; there is no fee, but pre-registration is required by July 3.
