BETTY J. PAYNE

Betty J. Payne ,91, of Plymouth, WI passed away on Friday afternoon, June 26, 2015, shortly after 4:00 P.M.

She was born on February 29, 1924, a daughter of the late William and Frances (Kelly) Dwyer.

She attended Pius School in the Town of Mitchell and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1941.

She worked for the U. S. Dept. of Agriculture in Sheboygan for 6 years.

On November 4, 1944, she married Kenneth J. Payne at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cascade. The couple lived and farmed their entire married life in the Town of Mitchell.

Betty worked at home in the early years raising 6 children, keeping a large garden and helping Kenneth with his duties of Town Treasurer for 20 years.

She worked at the Mitchell Cheese Company for 14 years, retiring in 1992.

Her husband preceded her in death on July 11, 1982.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in the Town of Mitchell and later Shepherd of the Hills Parish where she served her time with the Christian Mothers.

She was also a member of the Kettle Quilters, the St. Vincent De Paul Society in

Plymouth and served as a 4-H leader for the Parnell Pals for many years.

Betty loved flowers, making quilts, and most of all her grandchildren.

Survivors include her three sons: Charles (Kathleen) Payne of the Town of Mitchell, Russell Payne of the Town of Mitchell, and Michael (Cindy) Payne of the Town of Scott; three daughters: Mary Beth (Patrick) Schmidt of Ashford, Kathleen (David) Johnson of Black River Falls, and Eileen (Robert) Christ of Plover; eleven grandchildren: Tim (Kara), Bryan, Lauren and Megan Johnson, Ken (Amanda) and Michael (Jessica Tesch) Christ, Jen (Eric) Teska, Ken (Sara Agan) and Nick (Kayla Morrison) Payne, and Vicki and Sarah Payne; two step grandchildren: Brandon and Ryan Flasch; five great-grandchildren; two step great-granchildren; two sisters-in-law: Ruth Payne of Sheboygan Falls and Mary Dwyer of Cascade.

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one infant son, Tim, two brothers, George (Mary) and Francis “Bud”; three brothers-in-law: Forrest, Clark and Howard Payne; and two sisters-in-law: Pauline and Caroline Payne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Parnell on Thursday, July 2, at 10:30 A.M. Father Michael Shea will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth from 4-7:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Betty’s name.

The family would like to thank Lori Lei Krogmann for her kind and compassionate care in assisting Betty to stay at home for the past 6 years. They would also like to thank Woodland Village at Rocky Knoll for their most excellent and compassionate care for mom and all of her family members. They all were truly angels of mercy in their time of need. Also thanks to Sharon Richardson Hospice for their care and concern.
