Plan Commission amends business park zoning

by Steve Ottman Falls News Correspondent

The city of Sheboygan Falls Plan Commission approved an amendment to the zoning code section 17.29(7) regarding the business park district architectural standards for Vision Business Park Tuesday, June 23.

The amendment was reduced from 60 percent to 25 percent, requiring that buildings be faced with not less than 25 percent brick, decorative masonry, stone, architecturally finished precast panels or other decorative material approved by the Architectural Board.

In addition, all corner lot buildings will have each street side faced with not less than 20 percent brick or other decorative materials. Concrete block will not be considered decorative masonry material. Exterior gutters and downspouts will be permitted along the side and rear of the buildings.

All building plans for Vision Business Park must be approved by the Architectural Board.

The Plan Commission held a public hearing on the revised ordinance with no comments heard prior to the regular meeting.

After the public hearing, discussion followed with Plan Commission members.

Commissioner Cindy Hartzheim stated that she toured three business parks in Sheboygan and felt that the Taylor Drive Park was the most appealing.

Other discussions were about how the commission wanted the business to look.

Director Jerry Benzschawel felt that building materials have come a long way in making buildings look more attractive.

“With the change to the ordinance, I feel we present some alternatives for businesses to build here in Sheboygan Falls.” said Benzschawel.

“We want to be able to work with the new businesses,” said Mayor Randy Meyer. “Also to make sure that we have nice looking parks.”

Ken Sonntag reminded commissioners that each business will also have to follow the landscaping ordinances.

The next Sheboygan Falls Plan Commission meeting is scheduled to take place Tuesday, July 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the Municipal Building.
