Tigers rally for conference victory

HOWARDS GROVE – The Howards Grove Tigers rallied from an early deficit to defeat Sheboygan Lutheran/Kohler, 7-4, in Central Lakeshore Conference baseball play here Wednesday night.

The win upped the CLC champions’ league mark to 15-2 (16-4 overall).

The Tigers, who trailed 3-0 after one-half inning, scored three runs in the bottom of the second to grab a 4-3 lead. HGHS tallied the runs without a hit as it took advantage of three walks, an error and two stolen bases.

The Crusaders tied the game, 4-4, with a run in the fourth on Brady Stefanczyk’s single.

The Tigers answered with two runs in their half of the fourth to go ahead for good, 6-4. Alex Strege drew a leadoff walk and then stole second, third and home to give HGHS a 5-4 lead. Andrew Reinemann scored the other run on Brad Olson’s single. Reinemann had reached base on an error.

The Tigers had only four hits but drew seven walks, stole eight bases and were aided by three Crusader errors.

HGHS had no batters with multiple hits. Dakota Rabe and Strege had one RBI each. Strege led in steals with three, followed by Quentin Zettler and Olson with two apiece. Reinemann scored a team-high two runs.

The Crusaders had zero batters with more than one hit. Stefanczyk had the team’s lone RBI.

Olson was the winning pitcher in relief. He allowed no runs on zero hits with no walks and two strikeouts in two innings. Bryce Hoffmann earned a save with two scoreless frames. Hoffmann gave up no hits and one walk while fanning two.

Noah Fink was the losing hurler. Fink started and surrendered six runs (two earned) on only one hit with seven walks and four strikeouts in four innings.
