John Doe

To the Editor,

The John Doe investigation is over. The political witch hunt by a lawless group that included District Attorneys, Special Prosecutors, a couple of judges and even the Government Accountability Board (GAB) has been finally been put to rest by the Wisconsin Supreme Court in a 4 to 2 decision. At this point, what remains is to make those government officials pay for their crimes and to wonder how two Supreme Court Judges could not find anything wrong with search warrants on legal activities, early morning Gestapo-like intrusions into the homes of law abiding citizens, confiscation of all their personal computers and records, and mandating their victims to remain quiet. The one common thread that runs through this group and the two judges is their disagreement with the reforms lawfully implemented by the Republican legislature and Governor Walker.

What can be done with officials who abuse their power for political purposes? In most other countries it is business as usual. In our country we have a constitution that gives us first amendment rights of free political speech, fourth amendment rights against unreasonable searches and seizures, fifth amendment rights of due process and sixth amendment right to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; all of which were violated by this John Doe investigation that successfully silenced the political opposition of conservative groups during the last presidential election.

If our country is to remain above third world political lynchings, the John Doe perpetrators must be arrested and treated like the worst of criminals. The two dissenting Supreme Court justices, who violated their oath of office by ignoring our constitutional rights in favor of their partisan biases, should be forced to resign.
