Johnsonville interns host brat fry for Anokijig

Each year, Johnsonville employs a number of interns who are studying various fields to provide them an opportunity for on-the-job learning and real-world experience. As part of their internship program, the group is challenged to plan and execute a brat fry benefiting an organization in the local community. This year’s 13 interns - (back row, left to right) Ian Ollis, Travis Wallander, Tucker Reimer, Corbin Dewey, Paul Stadel, Austin Doro, Jacquelyn Cogswell, (front row) Mrudula Manjunath, Abby Dabson, Sarah Ulrich, Brittany Huston, Kathryn Chorley and Jennifer Levey - chose Camp Anokijig’s Teen Leadership Development Program in Plymouth as this year’s recipient

Camp Anokijig is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing youth and families by providing a healthy, natural environment that promotes character building and personal growth. Anokijig’s core programs are youth summer camp, teen leadership development, outdoor education, family programs, group retreats and rentals, adventure challenges, team building and volunteerism. The brat fry took place Thursday, July 23. Johnsonville members came out to enjoy brats, donated to win raffle prizes and silent auction items. Johnsonville leadership, including Owner and Chairman Ralph Stayer, volunteered in a dunk tank event where members took aim all in the name of charity. The interns raised $9,965.34, which is equivalent to nearly 11 percent of the annual cost to run the camp’s Teen Leadership Development Program, which provides leadership training for teens 15 to 17 years of age.

Johnsonville presented the check to Camp Anokijig on July 29.

“We can’t say enough about the enthusiasm and passion of the Johnsonville interns for this cause,” said Jim Scherer, executive director of Camp Anokijig. “It’s great to see young leaders willing to invest in other younger leaders and to truly make a notable difference in their lives. Our future is in good hands.”
