Evelyn L. Depping, 86 formerly of the Town of Rhine, WI passed away on July 28, 2015 at the Waterford in Plymouth.

Evelyn was born November 2, 1928, to the late Frieda (Rautmann) and Arthur Kaufmann of the Town of Sheboygan Falls. Evelyn graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School with the class of 1947 and the Sheboygan County Normal School. She taught at Acorn School in the Town of Sheboygan Falls from 1949 until the time of her marriage.

On September 24, 1955, Evelyn married Harold Depping at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. Harold and Evelyn farmed during their marriage raising registered Holstein cattle and certified seed oats. Their son David joined them in operating the family farm.

Her husband preceded her in death on July 15, 2012.

Evelyn was active in the Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah School district having served as PTA president, school board member, and as a substitute teacher. In addition to being a member and leader of the Riverside 4-H Club, Evelyn was general leader of the Johnsonville Hustlers 4-H club for many years and served on the Sheboygan County 4-H Alumni Board. In 2010, Evelyn was honored by the Sheboygan County 4-H Alumni Association for her work in Sheboygan County 4-H activities during her lifetime. Evelyn enjoyed quilting, counted-cross work, reading, and working crossword puzzles.

Evelyn’s boundless joy in life was her granddaughter, Anna, who brought her countless smiles and many precious memories.

Evelyn was a member of Saron UCC where she was a member of the Women’s Guild. In previous years, she served as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent of the Sunday School.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Tom Howe of Sheboygan; a granddaughter: Anna Depping- Herzog, and her mother, Kathy (Ryan) Herzog, of Plymouth; a sister: Vernita Gessert of Sheboygan; and nieces and nephews: Tim Gessert, Tom Kaufmann, Susan Paulos and Julie Prinsen.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband: Harold; her son: David; a brother and sister-in-law, Erwin and Esther Kaufmann; her brotherin law: Elmer Gessert; nephew: Dean Gessert; and an infant brother, Milfred.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday afternoon (August 5) at 4:00 P.M. at Saron United Church of Christ in Johnsonville. Rev. Ernest Huntzinger, pastor of the Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday (August 5) from 2:00 P.M. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established in Evelyn’s name for Saron United Church of Christ, the Sheboygan County 4-H Alumni Association and Sheboygan County Meals on Wheels.

Evelyn’s family expresses their heartfelt thanks for the continued support given to Evelyn by the Saron UCC family and the staff of The Waterford in Plymouth as well as the hospice staff and volunteers. A huge thank you to the “farm neighbors” who kept a gentle and caring eye on Mom so she could stay “on the farm” as long as possible. Special thanks to the incredible people at Wheelchair Taxi who got Mom where she needed to be. Finally, gratitude is extended to Dr. C. Best and her staff for the wonderful care and support given to Mom for many, many years. Continued blessings to all of you.
