Frederick “Fritz” Horneck, aged 93, resident of Elkhart Lake, WI, died Friday July 31, 2015 at Sharon Richardson Hospice, Sheboygan Falls, WI.

Frederick was born July 29, 1922 in Town of Rhine, WI to Ervin and Meta (Hahn) Horneck. He graduated from Elkhart Lake High School in 1940. He married Shirley Schmahl August 18, 1951. Fred farmed in rural Elkhart Lake until 1958 when he went to work for Northwest Airlines in Milwaukee. They returned to Elkhart Lake where he was employed at the Borden Foods Plant in Plymouth until retirement.

Frederick enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and researching family history and the history of the early years of Town of Rhine. Frederick’s great-great-grandfather and great-grandfather were early Town of Rhine residents after emigrating from Germany in 1848. This research led to a visit to the German town of Guntersblum on an invitation from the mayor of Guntersblum to participate in the town’s1100 year anniversary celebration in October of 1997. Fred also enjoyed writing poetry and traveling to visit his children and assist them with projects; he was especially pleased to help build his daughter’s log home in Wyoming.

He is survived by his wife Shirley (Schmahl) and by his sister Valeria (Horneck) Mauk of Elkhart Lake; his children Neal of Elkhart Lake, Nathan (Connie) of McVille, ND, Noel (Pam) of Cherokee Village, AR, and Noreen (Larry) Chamberlain of Douglas, WY, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
