Oscar Leroy Bardon, age 83, of Elkhart Lake, passed away peacefully early Tuesday August 4, 2015 at the Atrium in Plymouth, WI.

He was born in Greenbush on March 31, 1932, son of the late Leroy and Evada (Nichols) Bardon.

He attended schools in Glenbeulah and graduated from Glenbeulah High School in 1950.

Oscar served in the United States Army during the Korean War. (Corporal of the 50th signal battery, B-Company, 32nd Division).

On May 31, 1953, he married Phyllis Gannon at St. Fridolin’s Catholic Church in Glenbeulah. Oscar owned and operated many businesses, including the family farm, a welding business, Anchor Lanes, and Elkhart Lake Distributing, until retirement at the age of 75.

He was a member of St. Fridolin’s, serving as a lector, and later became a member of St. Thomas Aquinas, where he served on the financial council. Oscar was a member of the Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah School board, serving time as President. He was a member of the Elkhart Lake Lions Club for many years, were he held every office position and continued to serve on the Board of Directors.

Just recently he was still in charge of the maintenance team that got ready for every race at Road America. Oscar was awarded the Melvin Jones Award and Birch-Sturm Fellowship Award for his service in the Lions Club. He served with the Greenbush and Elkhart Lake Fire Department for 50 years and received a Certificate of Commendation and Citation by the Legislature from the State of Wisconsin for his service as a volunteer firefighter.

Oscar loved golf, bowling, hunting, snowmobiling, softball, taking care of the farm and spending time with his loving family.

Survivors include: his wife: Phyllis of Elkhart Lake; two sons: David (Janell) Bardon of Elkhart Lake and Dennis (Carol) Bardon of LaPorte, IN; sonin law: Ron (Janell) Nielsen of Elkhart Lake; eight grandchildren: Jeremy (Amy) Bardon of Appleton, Jessica (Gregorio) Waldron of Brown Deer, Joshua (Kayla) Bardon of Elkhart Lake, Amy (Rob) Gennardo of Bowling Brook, IL, Katie (Jake) Walz of Louisville, KY, Bradley (Stephanie) Nielson of Fond du Lac, Becky Nielsen of Brown Deer and Nicole (Joe) Thielmann of Appleton; twelve great-grandchildren: Jared, Jenna, Kylie, Kiera, Gregorio, Parker, Amaya, Olivia, Benjamin, Zachary, Bailee and Cora; brother and sisters: Ruby (Palmer) Feldmann of FL, Robert (Sandy) Bardon of Renton, WA, and Charlene (Carl) Wimmler of Plymouth; four sisters-in-law: Jean (Gene) Holzmann of McFarland, Mary Buttler of Menasha, Bernadine (Don) Ditter of Glenbeulah, and Kathleen (Ralph) Tredway of Brighton, MI.

He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Oscar was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Lori (Bardon) Nielsen; and brother-in-law: Richard Butler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015) at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake. Father Dan Volkert, pastor of the Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday evening, August 6 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. and again at the church on Friday, August 7 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Oscar’s name for the St. Thomas Aquinas Compassionate Hearts Ministry.
