LTC instructor earns certification on measuring tool

Lee Sleger, Machine Tool/ CNC Instructor at Lakeshore Technical College, was one of 15 instructors nationwide who earned certification in Starrett Precision Measuring during a July training session in Kenosha. Sleger is now able to help LTC students earn an industry recognized credential which will be part of the Machine Tool/CNC Program at LTC.

“Students benefit by earning an industry recognized credential in addition to their college certificate, technical diploma or degree,” said Sleger. “It gives them an advantage in the hiring process. Businesses benefit because job applicants with these credentials have a third-party validation of their skills to add to their college degree.”

Starrett Precision Measuring is known as one of the NC3 industry driven Certifications. NC3, National Coalition of Certification Centers, is a network of education providers and corporations that supports, advances and validates new and emerging technology. Educational institutions and industry partners work to develop, implement and sustain industry-recognized portable certifications that have strong validation and assessment standards. More than 80 Instructors attended the training in Kenosha during the week of July 12.

Sleger is also able to go to industry and train incumbent employees on Precision Measuring at the employer site. In addition, LTC also provides Snap On Torque and Multi Meter certifications in the Apprenticeship, Wind Energy, Maintenance Mechanic and Nuclear programs as well as Snap On Diagnostic certification in the Auto Mechanic program.
