LaVERNE D. WILKE

LaVerne D. Wilke, 84, of Random Lake, passed away at home on Thursday, August 13, 2015 surrounded by her loving family and friends.

She was born on December 12, 1930, in the Town of Sherman, daughter to the late Herbert and Esther (Rosenthal) Gruenewald. She attended the Silver Creek Grade School and Random Lake School, graduating in 1948. Howard Wilke and LaVerne were married on June 6, 1949 at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Batavia.

They purchased a farm in the Town of Sherman in 1948 and farmed until 1990. LaVerne drove school bus for Johnson School Bus Company. She worked at the Random Lake School District as a janitor and was proud of it.

LaVerne was a 4-H leader for 42 years. Howard and LaVerne maintained the lawn at Camp Riversite for 16 years. She was the general leader for the Sherman Workers 4-H Club for many years and she volunteered helping with 4-H camps and leather craft.

LaVerne rallied for her beloved Green Bay Packers, listened to the Brewers, Badgers, watched Nascar Racing and was an avid reader. LaVerne was a member of the Sheboygan Audubon Society and enjoyed Open Mic Night and folk singers. She was a member of the Random Lake Area Historical Society. LaVerne loved bouquets of fresh flowers.

Survivors include her husband: Howard; daughters: Darla Jean Kraus and Dawn (Robert) Boehlke of Random Lake; grandchildren: Darci Kraus of West Bend, Dustin and Chelsea Boehlke of Random Lake; sister: Idaleen Hildebrand of Random Lake; one sister-in-law: Ilma Arndt of Random Lake, and her feline companions Libby and Tuffy.

She is also survived by nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life for LaVerne will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the Silver Creek Fire Hall. Friends and family may come between 4:00-8:00 P.M. with a tribute to LaVerne starting at 6 P.M. with sharing of memories and stories.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be set up in her name for 4-H Camp Riversite and Random Lake Area Historical Society.
