The Great 8 Conference game was the season opener for both teams.

The Titans’ superior depth was crucial as they wore down the short-handed Resorters in the second half. Elkhart’s squad was depleted due to injuries and ineligible players.

The Titans had a well-balanced offense with 189 yards on the ground and 126 passing which made it tough for a young Elkhart defense.

“Lena is a good, solid team. They found our weaknesses on defense and definitely worked at them. They got some big passing plays on us,” said new Resorter head coach Josh Bardon.

“They did a nice job with their play-action passes.

“We played hard all the way through. We learned a lot about ourselves. This game was a great learning tool,” said Bardon whose team has only four seniors.

Bardon thought junior quarterback Dyllan Konen played well. Konen, who normally plays tailback, started at quarterback because Jared Shaw was out with an injury. Konen led EL-G in rushing with 118 yards on 31 carries.

The coach said senior Owen Kalbacken played well at linebacker.

Sophomore quarterback Jack Farley threw two touchdown passes for the Titans to running back Matthew Marquardt.
