Tigers repeat as South Classic champions

SHEBOYGAN – The Howards Grove Tigers started their girls volleyball season on a strong note Thursday as they repeated as the Sheboygan South Classic champions.

The Tigers finished 6-0 in the round-robin tournament. HGHS won all of its matches in straight sets over Brown Deer (25-19, 25- 14), Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln (25-7, 25-9), Sheboygan South (25-18, 25-22), Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs (25-21, 25-21), Port Washington (25-17, 25-19) and Appleton East (25-20, 26-24).

“It was good experience for this young team to compete and get pushed in a lot of matches early in the season. We are looking forward to the challenges ahead,” said Tiger head coach Brett Damrow.

Junior Sam Yancy spearheaded the Tigers’ attack with 61 kills. Olivia Stauss and Taylor Bubolz contributed 23 and 10 kills, respectively. Bubolz had a teamhigh 105 assists.

Brittany Schaller led HGHS in digs with 108, followed by Stauss with 41 and Yancy, 33. Yancy paced the team in blocks with six.
