“Her name’s Brownie,” said the young Farmerbud.

“Did you name her Brownie because she eats Brownies?” asked Widder.

“No,” said the Farmerbud, “she eats grain!”

That’s just a sample of the questions which were asked this past weekend at the Farmerbud Showmanship event at the Sheboygan County Fair. This event is always full of surprises and a lot of imagination is seen from the answers that are given by the young handlers.

The event is divided in three age groups — Youth 4 & 5, Youth 6 & 7, and Youth 8 years of age. They all received a coupon for ice cream at the Red Barn and a pencil case.

The calves need to be born after June 1 so they are easier for these young dairy people to handle them. The Farmerbud Showmanship is an opportunity for youth, younger than nine years of age, to begin showing dairy cattle in a fun and supportive environment.

After observing the participants it is obvious that the 4-H dairy project and the future of the dairy industry in Sheboygan County is alive and well and will be flourishing for many years to come.
