Falls NewsphotobySteveOttman A strong Manitowoc Roncalli girls tennis team brought Sheboygan Falls’ seven-match winning streak to a halt with a 6-1 victory Tuesday, Sept. 15, in Sheboygan Falls.

Following the loss, Falls (10-2 overall) dropped to third place in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference standings behind Roncalli and Kohler with a 6-2 record with three EWC matches remaining.

Falls No. 2 singles player Ellie Roe stayed unbeaten with a 6-4, 6-0 win.

“Roncalli and Kohler are the two best teams in the conference and they have yet to play each other except in a tournament where Kohler won 4-3.,” said Falcons’ head coach Leigh Cherveny.

Cherveny commented that Roe is having a nice unbeaten season so far.

Allie Lee at No. 4 singles went three sets, but lost and the No. 3 doubles team of Marissa Gurnther and Kim Dean had a nice match, but lost in three sets as well.

Mia Bartel battled hard against state-ranked Talli Piaskowski of Manitowoc Roncalli in the No. 1 singles match.

“While Mia played well, Talli has too many weapons for most players,” Cherveny said. “Her strong serve, heavy topspin and great ground strokes make it difficult for most players.”
