State 67 work over the hump

The most disruptive phase of the State 67/North Milwaukee Street road project in the city of Plymouth has passed the halfway point, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) regional office in Green Bay.

The handwork concrete crew will be on site for part of the week. By mid-week the concrete mainline crew will be back preparing for concrete paving of the southbound side of the project. The pavement will need to cure for seven days before vehicles are allowed to drive on the new concrete. In addition, access to property owners’ driveways will be restricted during concrete paving and cure time for two to three weeks.

During the concrete paving prep work and the curing time, residents on the west side of the project will be restricted from accessing their driveways. Please make other arrangements during the next two to three weeks while concrete paving operations take place. The northbound State 67 concrete has reached acceptable strength.

This 0.84-mile, $3.18 million urban reconstruction project involves reconstruction of State 67 from the Mullet River to Suhrke Road, resurfacing and repairs to the Mullet River bridge, and water utility, storm sewer and sanitary sewer reconstruction along with new concrete pavement.

State 67 is closed to through traffic during construction. Access to local businesses and properties will be maintained. However, several of the side roads to State 67 (North Milwaukee Street) will be closed as work progresses. Residents can utilize Edna and Grove Street to cross State 67 and Krumrey Street to access Marshner and Braun streets.

Alternate access will be maintained as work continues north. The Main Street intersection will remain open to residences and business access only.

State 67 is closed from a point immediately north of Mill Street (County C) and Caroline Street intersection to Suhrke Road. Traffic is detoured using County C and State 23.

At the intersection of State 67 and County PP, crews will complete finishing details on the shoulder slopes, landscaping and site restoration details on Monday and Tuesday. Pavement marking and signs are scheduled to be completed by the end of the week.

From County PP to Riverbend Drive on State 67, shoulder slopes will be finished in conjunction with shoulders at the intersection of State 67 and County PP this week. Additional work will be done to the ditch along the west side of the road and should be complete by mid-week. Guardrail will be installed along both sides of State 67 and finally pavement marking and signs should be complete by week’s end.

The 0.75-mile rural reconstruction and resurfacing project at the intersection of State 67 and County PP and from County PP to Riverbend Drive is scheduled for completion Oct. 12.

This work involves two contracted projects - the reconstruction of the intersection at State 67 and County PP/Hill and Dale Road and the mill and overlay of State 67 from County PP northward to Riverbend Drive. The work on these projects includes pavement removals, asphalt pavement, culvert pipe, storm sewer, curb and gutter, beam guard, signing, pavement marking, and erosion control.

State 67 traffic will be detoured on County ZZ, County Z, County C and State 23 while work is being performed at the intersection of State 67 and County PP.

At the State 23/State 32 interchange, crews will be removing all traffic control devices from the interchange early in the week.

This project consisted of replacing concrete pavement along with curb and gutter at the intersection of State 23/State 32 interchange westbound on-ramp to State 23 to accommodate oversized/overweight vehicles. Red concrete truck apron will be placed on the back side of the curb and gutter.

All State 32 through lanes and the westbound State 23 on-ramp will remain open to traffic.

On the 14th Street bridge in the city of Sheboygan, crews will continue placing forms and will place steel reinforcement for the new bridge deck this week. The bridge deck will be poured at the end of the week.

This work consists of bridge deck replacement, pavement replacement and street lighting.

State 28 (14th Street) is closed to all traffic between Niagara Avenue and Ontario Avenue. The detour uses Indiana Avenue, Taylor Drive, Kohler Memorial Drive and Erie Avenue.

Motorists are advised to use caution and remain alert when driving through any work zone.
